Despite shooting out host Rajasthan for a paltry 51 and taking a first-innings lead of 100 runs, Odisha suffered a two-wicket defeat on the penultimate day of their last Group A Ranji Trophy match at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur today. This was the third defeat in eight matches for Odisha, who ended their campaign with 12 points.
Chasing 230 for victory and resuming their second innings at the overnight score of 79 for two, Rajasthan overcame anxious moments before romping home with two wickets and more than a day to spare. Puneet Yadav and Siddharth Dobal played important roles for the win, scoring a half-century each in the second innings. This was the second win for Rajasthan and they completed their group engagements with 17 points.
Put into bat on a bowler-friendly track, Odisha posted modest first-innings total of 151 and then skittled out the opposition for the second lowest total in Ranji Trophy. In the second innings, Odisha mustered another modest total of 129. Rajasthan pacer Aniket Choudhary was adjudged the player of the match for a match haul of 10 wickets for 58 runs.
Among notable Odisha performers, allrounder Alok Chandra Sahoo bagged six wickets in the first innings and two in the second. His senior teammate Basant Mohanty returned with a match haul of seven wickets for 82 runs. In the batting department, Anurag Sarangi was the top scorer in the first innings with 43 runs. In the second innings, Alok Sahoo and Ranjit Singh contributed 31 and 30 runs respectively.
